Frugal spending tips come from just about anywhere if we look for them. Once we have identified a tip, it is up to us to determine whether or not it applies to our lifestyle.
Common sense and discipline will help us filter out the various tips and suggestions and will assist us in living below our means.
Frugal living doesn't necessarily mean cheap. But it does mean getting the most "mileage" out of what resources we have.
Following are some Spending Tips to consider:
- Don't shop when you are hungry.
- Buy in larger quantities when possible.
- Shop around and compare prices.
- When shopping for professional services, check credentials as well as fees.
- Investigate using money saving coupons.
- Plan and shop for special purchases in advance.
- Don't shop on payday.
- Pay yourself first.
Don't shop when you are hungry
We have all heard this, but do we heed this advice? There are all kinds of things happening when we shop hungry.
- Signs on fast food restaurants take on a special meaning. It is almost like they are calling your name.
- Understand that there is a reason why food concessions are at the front of the store when we enter. Doesn't it make more sense to grab a bite to eat before we begin filling our shopping carts? Of course that is a few extra dollars out of our pocket.
- Where are the candy bars, energy drinks, bottled water, and soft drinks locate? More than likely you will find them in near proximity to the check out stands. The displays are so designed to make it easy to succomb to impulse purchase.
