A new adventure! Life After Retirement
Rocking Chair Wisdom – Life After Retirement has been established to bring resources to the newly retired or the “almost” retired persons seeking to transition from the normally busy workplace, having spent the last 40 years or so giving our all to provide a comfortable living for ourselves and our families. Together we will create our own adventure.
It is our goal to bring information on how to live a full life during the retirement years and to share the Rocking Chair Wisdom, wisdom that comes from experience and maturity, with one another. Together, we can create our own individual adventure.
For those of us who live in large enough cities to have clogged freeways with monitored on-ramps, it is not difficult to imagine the flow of the Baby Boomer generation into the retirement years commencing at the age of 62. It has been estimated that there are over 70 million individuals that have been born beginning with the year 1946 and ending with the year 1964. Those born in 1946 are now reaching the age of 62 which qualifies for early retirement under the Social Security Administration’s guidelines. It has been estimated that there are 365 people waiting at the on-ramp every hour for the next several years.
We will look at some of the issues that may be encountered as we continue to age. In the United States our average life spans have continued to increase and consequently our productive years have increased. Even the government has recognized this in extending the age groupings for those who reach “full” retirement age under the Social Security Administration’s guidelines.
We will highlight some of the more popular retirement locations and will be looking at what makes them popular. We will also be seeking out information to share regarding various scams that may be targeting our age group. Our age group has a greater net worth in this country than that of any other group, estimated by the Federal Reserve to be more than $14.4 trillion, and there will always be people trying to shift that to another age group.
Life after retirement should be a time when we can refocus our energies, take time to “smell the roses”, and create new adventures in living and sharing.
